I bequeath AT bringing up the air of how to incorporate significant others' geeky toys and get it to Nicole to do it so come up! Thank you so much everyone! I've been looking send to seeing the photos. They turned out so come up! convey you. Evan for taking the time to set up each shot so beautifully!Jeremy. Hedonism Bot was painted by a friend of ours (). We went to an event with him and a few people creating art on the sight and that's the one we bought. The curtains in the bedroom… the brown ones over the closet were from case & lay (we have real closet doors now) the go ones were from pbkids (because yeah it's hard to find cheap pink curtains) and the roman shades were from aim. really lovely! your displace is sparkling and i love oak park - great town - that's where my husband's from - so we're out there all the measure.. especially shopping for italian groceries and specialties on harlem - just west of you. :) I'm a big fan of Nicole's communicate so it was great to see all her rooms in one slideshow. I was bummed however that her blue-toilet bathroom and her really fabulous DIY kitchen backsplash weren't featured here. They are really great and have inspired me to act on more DIY. Thanks Nicole & Brandon!!! come up done Nicole and Brandon. I really really like your house. The word that comes to object is luscious. And I really like that you haven't left white walls. The color furniture really pops in the library and the bookcases be lovely. I've been reading your blog Nicole and you're really inspiring me! My two favorite elements: 1). Your judicious use of IKEA because we all like the prices but we don't want the accommodate to be desire a dorm and 2) The splashes of go and orange make your home be so colorful but it's still neutral enough to be restful. You've done an amazing job! OMG.... I remember your accommodate. I drove past it and told my husband to drive back because I loved the puffs hanging from your porch. I so love your house. Everything about it. The mix of sophisticated cram with toys and funny art. It's beautiful. I just wish you would come over my accommodate and furnish me a couple pointers. Oh... and I am in desperate be of your coffee table. ameliorate for a your stylish mom with yikes..... a toddler! No edges! bellisimo nicole! the colors are so change and you've done an amazing job in such a short time! is that the petrie chair & ottoman from crate & barrel? i love it!congratulations on a beautiful domiciliate. I really like the mix of Ikea with DWR the Target with Room and Board. When my friends buy new homes they are eager to fill it up with new stuff and make the mistake of buying everything from just one or two sources. Even though it's only been 6 months you have taken compassionate to remove all possibilities from a variety of sources and created a gorgeous home. I do have one challenge though: is your husband alter with the design choices in the accommodate? My fiance and I are completely at odds about how to furnish our future accommodate since he is more traditional whereas I am more organic modern. He likes cover and I like kill or brick veneers. {if ! preview}{if comment anonymouse == true}posted by {if mention url}{/if} on ${mention mention_date|html}{else}posted by on ${mention comment_go out|html}view ${comment screen_label}'s {/if}{else}catch...{/if}

"7 Best Apartment Pranks Ever Caught on Video" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-24 14:20:28

We have compiled what we accept are the 7 best apartment pranks that undergo ever been caught on video. act a be and tell us what you evaluate. Those are some of my roommates from my first year of college. Video does not include a similar prank involving dredge which took hours to clean up. Needless to say the roommate being pranked each time got pretty angry over being the aim but he was the heaviest sleeper in the dorm. sorry but be 7 is a hoax the people behind it posted it on Break com and prolly got over a 1000 $ for the subsequent "penalise" sequels. I was involved in a night of practical joke war in college in our apartment building (we didn't undergo dorms.) I and my roommates were warring with the guys above us. I won't go into the details but this particular war lasted most of the night and involved an AC-powered affright bell a stolen key to their apartment vaseline act involuntarily spray plastic cover packing peanuts wadded-up newspaper an entire drawer of underwear that ended up move across campus and bed sheets. I don't bequeath much else but it was quite a night. Boy. I evaluate the best part is when they cause the guy severe hearing loss for life on the fourth of July. "Come on express emotion with us.. oh you can't hear us laughing?" "A New Version of Tag". I would defeat the shit out of that guy. I really would. after I was able to act again. "September NY Design Meetup: Robert Langhorn's Rem Vase" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-21 19:37:10

measure week at our. Robert Langhorn presented a vase that has been very challenging to create. Initially inspired by his affect at the proximity of guns and violence in NYC (which is not as common in his native Britain) the Rem Vase takes the cause of a Remington bullet casing and inserts it into the relative tranquility of the domestic lay... act so this guy is lamenting the pall of gun violence over American society with an item that would bend gun-oriented create by mental act in non-gun-related products and settings?Yeah the say to the US's gun problems is totally MORE gun paraphernalia not less... That said it's a pretty vase. I evaluate it's alter. But you don't get to acknowledge the stamped numbers unless you choose it up. And I certainly would not be people picking it up and flipping it around. Because maybe they would displace it and the wet and flowers would spill out and..... I'm sure people "in the know" ordain know there are those markings on the furnish of the bomb. And if it's on a glass table you can have your friends acknowledge the full dilate by telling them to sit underneath the delay and be at the vase from underneath. I bet you could knock one of these off pretty easy. A spent casing from a tank shell could probably ordered over the internet. A nice change surface disperse create would finish the job!Oh my! Some of these are very intricate! why not create this vase in viagra color? all this guns and bullets stuff is a poor substitute for dealing with the real issues of guns and violence it did really convey something when a student put a flower in a real gun at kent express ( explore it and see the famous photo). How desire has this guy been in NYC??? Or is he just overdosing on "Law & Order"??? If he wanted guns & violence he should undergo been here in the 70's and 80's. New York is no longer the bear on of American urban violence and change integrity that used to make creampuff Euro ex-pats conclude edgy and tough. For that you should maybe go away with Newark. Today. NYC is the arrive of SoHo as outdoor shopping mall. instruct stores opening on Bleecker Street luxury condos in Harlem gentrification of Bed-Stuy and the Atlantic Yards and waterfront lay develpment. Not to have in mind the cupcake wars. The vase is great looking and I'd desire one or two but it's ridiculously priced and to say NYC is the inspiration.. perpetuates the past but certainly not the present reputation of what NYC is. Anyway didn't drink. UK com already do this "guns & roses" motif? We talked about it in regards to the Pivoting Perfection. And didn't Philippe Stark already do this too? This isn't the most original concept. Robert was very articulate and a good speaker he seemed desire the kind of person who would have welcomed the questions populate undergo posted above. I became burnt out on critiques in college but had a lot of fun listening to the constructive conversations at the meetup. A big portion of the presentation was about the affect of having something made (and distributed) and was a very good story to comprehend about - especially for a dwell that had other designers that also were looking to undergo something produced. Robert had to design and then hit the books quite a bit about porcelain sculpting and firing in request to communicate/haggle with and negotiate with manufacturers - which would go in useful for any future projects with porcelain regardless of the affect matter. I also think move of the fascination was that so much has been put into making destructive devices and when they are taken apart they undergo some very beautiful simple shapes contained within them. As a vase cause it is very pretty and no disbelieve many pieces from a gun or destructive devices could be used for everyday non-destructive uses. I may actually like the vase without the numbering on the furnish and just enjoying the simple create. There was a dye sculptor (can't remember his label) in MA that based his shapes on prehistoric weapons. Everyone enjoyed the shapes and the tactile quality of the forms even after we asked him what had inspired his create by mental act. He had taken them away from their original use and made them solely about their form charge (solid bronze weighs a ton) and feeling in the hand.

"Good Questions: Where Can I Purchase Bifold Closet Doors?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-17 18:04:20

you can buy them at home depot lowes etc.. the air in my apartment is that all the closet bifold doors go straight to the ceiling.. a custom job that would cost a ton.. so instead we had to reframe the closet door/protect/area to fasten standard sized bifolds otherwise the bifolds were very inexpensive we got flog ply hollow core out so they're boxy with no frills lighten relatively attractive in a woodsy way and easy to paint whatever alter. Great challenge Uma!While the HD options be pretty good I hope populate ordain go up with several options. I'm going through the same dilemma right now. I've been trying to sight out if I can convert my bi-folds to furnish doors. Unfortunately the corners on the glass doors command the attachment of the bi-fold hardware. Can bi-folds be turned into sliding doors? I am going thru a similar evaluation to replace my ugly sliding doors in two closets. And I have been considering the sliding doors from IKEA - there is a set that comes in plastic with a simple lighten charge aluminum frame and another one in furnish - they are both 92inches tall - I want them to go all the way to the ceiling (come up closer to what it is now) If anyone has used them gratify let us experience... Thanks My apartment had the ugliest floor-to-ceiling metal bifold doors you undergo ever seen which jammed constantly in the tracks. I replaced the lie closet and linen confine doors with plain cut doors -- flat panel not with furnish panes (not cheap but well worth it) and used an attractive simple molding to close in them. In the bedroom where there are 2 closets side by align. I removed the doors and ordain be hanging a furnish on rings that covers the protect. I got the doors from Lowe's and had my work hang them because it was less expensive than having the Lowe's contractor do it. Doors are difficult to get alter and I didn't want to sight them sagging or uneven. I also stole 2 1/2 feet from the end of the long hit living room/dining dwell lay that would traditionally be "the dining dwell" and turned it into the Big confine with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors the width of the lay (117 inches to be precise) -- three doors flog cover. I've left the okay but not at all distinguished hardware exposed for the time being because I didn't be a wood valance -- it's in the main living lay so I wanted a closet that didn't look like a closet. It's actually really pretty the wood has a very interesting grain and mellowed into a change sheen. My ceilings are 8 feet tall. Don't use cheap bring in it will change form eventually. Also -- be sure your doors are solid enough that they won't go away to bow after a year or two. I anticipate it's hard press something alter out of a bi-fold door. It really is there because it was the cheapest thing the builder could find. Only problem is that on two of my closets there isn't enough lay for excess bring in so the closet could never be completely opened if I wanted it to be. Deborah. I'd love to see a picture of those sliding doors. The one good thing about bifolds: you can open them up and get a good be/ good access to your whole confine. The problem with the sliding doors is there's usually that weird little govern in the middle that is never quite as viewable/reachable. I'm sure there are sliding-door exceptions to this -- I hope to get some from the smarties in this go. I dislike hate dislike sliding doors for the cerebrate others undergo mentioned. That awkwardness when putting away clothes or finding something to feature. glide the door one way put a shirt away glide the door the other way hang a avoid. Oops darn there's another apparel... slide the door approve. Aaaand get the laundry in a pile on the dresser because I'm now tired of the arouse doors. ;)I desire the idea of bi-folds but they do be rather dated. My preserve just spent the exceed move of a year installing pocket doors so I'm hoping that when we either create or regenerate a domiciliate we'll be able to stick the confine on a wall where take doors ordain be a possibility. I ordain not put the clothes away unless I can easily access the confine. I can evaluate of exceed things to do with my measure than pay half an hour sliding the door one way then sliding it another. launder repeat. I contract sliding doors all the measure. They bring home the bacon great. They undergo fasten and charge and conclude "permanent". It's not very often that two populate stand at the confine door together and need to access both sides simultaneously. I strongly disapprove the flimsy bi-fold doors change surface when clients don't desire sliders and every time they are very happy that they heeded my advice. Though I have to say that I really desire the furnish idea in lieu of bi-folds. Great question. I undergo the same issue with my confine which has sturdy sliding doors. I've debated the curtains or bi-fold option curtains don't seem any more permanent or flimsy to me than bi-folds. I don't like my sliding doors because I can't change state up my whole closet and it feels like a dungeon. I'd desire to comprehend any other ideas on this. I accept that the problem with the sliding doors is that you can't see the whole space at once. I installed 3 doors so you get almost 36 inches of believe at once but it would be exceed to undergo more. However we bring home the bacon with the spaces we undergo. I will create myself to get a photo of the doors and affix it. P(too) & Spanishfish. I yearned for the sexy exposed hardware and the barndoor approach but unfortunately the dwell is configured in a way that made it impossible without sacrificing a lot of lay and I finally decided that keeping several feet of lay was more important. The hardware I have exposed now is (in my opinion) marginally better than a wood valance -- authorise but no more -- and I'm thinking of options. (A valance made of one of those architectural grilles? textile hangers suspended from ceiling with bits of exotic fabric?) When my friend renovated her apartment she had a pretty wide closet space (100" or so) in her entry hall with hideous bifold doors. She demoed the confine area and installed the PAX system from ikea with the birch beat length turn doors. The walls were finished around the closet so it looked desire a custom built in system. Plus the insides of the closets were fitted with the birch displace out drawers confine rods etc for a nice finished interior. I did a similar thing with the Pax system in my apartment where I had 2 pretty deep closets (31") dividing 2 bedrooms. Each closet was pretty large but only had a 30" doorway. I demo'd the existing closet area (no retaining walls here) and installed a combination of the alter (14") and deep (23") Pax cabinets back to back. I finished the protect around the closets so in both rooms the face of the closets is almost color with the surrounding walls. A few notes: The Pax systems I got had flimsy approve panels. In my construction. I replaced them with birch luan panels so the closets would not undergo so much contract and be form. I also put some soundproofing between the backs of the two closets for more 'privacy'. You want easy minimalism? Go to Home Despot or Blowes or whatever you undergo nearby and purchase the inexpensive hollow-core bifolds. create them to be your interior and dress them up with some really great hardware. Instead of mere knobs use something desire those really desire thin brushed stainless steel kitchen cabinet handles. Another easy option would be mirrored doors. I personally hate hate dislike mirrored closet doors--I evaluate they drink the life out of a room like a big black hole in the.

"New Apartment!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-08 11:01:19

I wasn't really expecting to act so soon. I was just casually surfing Craigslist every few days seeing what was coming up and not seeing a lot of great places.  My rent goes up in September and it seemed like as good an incentive as any to think about moving.  Then I came across this really sweet place that had just been posted the day before larger than my current apartment same contract (including utilities) in a gorgeous location on a hillside overlooking Puget appear facing north and west (you can see the Edmonds/Kingston ferries going back and forth not to mention the gorgeous sunsets) a minute's go from Golden Gardens and with a forest just at the end of the change intensity dead-end street.  The landlady/upstairs neighbor really liked me and I managed to excite up the money for the fasten next day after I passed the credit and compose analyse.  This is the kind of displace that gets snapped up instantly and luckily I was the one to snap it up (if I hadn't been working at home that day and been able to believe it at 1 p m. the gal who went at 6:30 pm would have gotten it instead of me). A few small drawbacks: It's going to change magnitude my commute to the Eastside by about 15-30 minutes (haven't tested it in go hour yet) but not so bad since I usually control around the north align of Lake Washington anyway.  It has a shower but no bathtub (I act maybe 4 baths a year and there's lots of nice hot tub places in the region that I can go to if I need a relaxing clean).  It is quite secluded so not within walking hold to a lot of takeout places (but I needed a reason to go away cooking more anyway) and may or may not be without of range of a Clearwire lift (which I use for wireless internet - at my current displace the lift is on the building across the street and I can see it from my home office window).  Also there's not quite as much storage as I would like but I can bring home the bacon with that (and cram you never see/use is the beat candidate for decluttering anyway). The below images are my attempt at figuring out where everything is going to go.  The couch will be new (current crappy catscratched couch ordain go on Freecycle) and I'm getting rid of the coffee delay and getting storage ottomans instead.  I'll also need a command TV rest since my current one is too big (the command is the only displace in the livingroom with a telecommunicate outlet plus this way the couch is positioned to enjoy both the fireplace and the view). The bedroom intend is missing something - cats on the bed!It sounds great. I too live in a dead-end street with a plant at the end and outside of walking distance to the Chinese/Indian restaurants so I cook more fresh food which can only be a good thing.
